Facebook and Channel 10 Australia in alliance talks

Ten   FacebookBig businesses need social media more than small businesses.  It’s essential for not just advertising but also the virtual community they want to build around their brand.

I read on SMH today about how Channel 10 Australia is talking seriously with Facebook about an alliance that could be mutually beneficial.  Facebook’s win would be access to Ten’s content and give it some social media love somewhat similar I presume to Fango.  Fango is an app for iPhones and iPads (and now Samsung) which allow you to chat, comment and talk about shows while they’re on.  Clever.  Facebook could want a piece of that action.

For Ten it’s creating a bigger, deeper, wider community of people who integrate with the Ten brand and shows at a much more comprehensive level than just commenting on a status or photo on their Facebook Page.

I’m looking forward to seeing the results of this alliance.  It could mean much bigger things for businesses of all sizes, churches and charities and social media as a whole and how it integrates with other media like TV and also advertising.

  1. If a pissy little app is worth 1 billion, then channel 10 must be worth at least 400 trillion.
